From Hospitality to Homes
The Lafayette Inn was constructed in 1904 as a premier destination in Clinton Iowa on the historic Lincoln Highway. The hotel boasted some of the highest and most innovated amenities in the country and was a landmark in Clinton for decades. In the later twentieth century the building was converted to residential apartments and the lobby was converted to a bank, but much of the historic character was maintained.
Bush purchased the building in 2024 and started the process of nominating the building for registration on the National Register of Historic Places due to it cultural and architectural significance. Following this, Bush’s team is working with local, state and national officials to develop a financing structure using state and federal historic tax credits, affordable housing tax credits, and local support to complete a historic renovation of the property. The property will be rebuilt and placed back in service as 53 affordable studio, 1 bedroom, and 2-bedroom apartments in 2026.
