As EveryChild expanded its services across the Quad Cities, it needed a facility that could evolve alongside the organization. Bush Construction’s integrated Design-Build team transformed an existing building into a welcoming, functional environment designed around the needs of children, families, and staff.
The Challenge
Designing the Right Environment for Sensitive Services
EveryChild, formerly the Child Abuse Council, is a bi-state regional nonprofit providing child abuse prevention, education, and treatment programs for children and families. Its new facility needed to support that mission with the right balance of privacy, security, comfort, and flexibility while also supporting staff productivity.
EveryChild also needed to make responsible use of every project dollar. The facility is part of a broader $2.7 million investment supported in part by a public fundraising campaign, making budget certainty especially important.
The Solution
One Team: Design Through Construction
Bush Construction served as EveryChild’s Design-Build partner, bringing designers, construction professionals, and the client together around a shared set of project goals.
The integrated approach allowed design decisions to be evaluated alongside constructability, cost, and schedule from the beginning. Bush worked closely with EveryChild to understand how staff deliver services, how children and families experience the facility, and where the organization needed flexibility for future growth.
That collaboration was a defining part of the experience for EveryChild. President Nicole Mann described Bush as “true partners” who listened to concerns, provided solutions, and helped turn the organization’s vision into reality.
The value of the Design-Build approach became especially clear during demolition, when the team uncovered existing plumbing that conflicted with the planned restroom layout. With design and construction working together, the team quickly redesigned the affected area, confirmed code compliance, and coordinated the change without impacting the overall renovation budget.

- Exterior enhancements and greenspace improvements
- New pedestrian walkways and site upgrades
Privacy, comfort, natural light, and acoustic separation were incorporated throughout the design. Private therapy rooms support confidential conversations, while updated offices and shared work areas give staff space to collaborate as programs evolve.

EveryChild gained a facility designed to support its mission today while providing flexibility for the future.
