Carnegie Library, Aledo, IL

Bush Construction completed the historical renovation of the Carnegie Library in Aledo, IL. Built in 1915-16, the landmark served generations of community members until it closed in 2019. Former residents, Crista and William J. Albertson, purchased the library and renovations began in early 2020.

The Albertson’s vision was to turn the library into a center for technology, education, and recruiting.

Project Details

  • Restored original bookshelves and refinished original floor.
  • Refurbished exterior lamp posts and replaced light fixtures and handrails.
  • Exterior updates including tuckpointing, replacing windows and storm windows, refinished the original exterior door and replaced the roof.
  • Installed modern HVAC and communication technology.
  • Added a conference room and kitchen in the lower level to help support new coworking space and tech center run by High-Tech Small Town.

The Carnegie Library has gained national attention and received the Richard H. Driehaus Foundation National Preservation Award, an award that celebrates the in historic preservation, adaptive reuse, and the re-imagining of historic buildings for the future.

Pure Hair + Beauty Lounge

Business owner and visionary, Stacey Spillum, worked with Bush Construction to develop “Utica & 56,” a modern commercial building to house three tenant spaces in addition to her studio, Pure Hair + Beauty Lounge. We worked hand-in-hand with Stacey to design Pure Hair + Beauty Lounge and two other tenant spaces. Features of the aesthetically pleasing building include an abundance of natural light and a modern, minimal design. We couldn’t be more pleased to help Stacey achieve her vision of a creative collection of spaces that compliment each other.

 

TBK Bank

TBK Bank, SSB, a subsidiary of Triumph Bancorp, Inc., opened its new Midwest headquarters in a brand new building on Grant Street in downtown Bettendorf, Iowa. The innovation-rich headquarters occupies approximately 36,000 SF, spans three stories, and features a custom fabricated staircase, open office workstations, collaboration areas, private offices, a large kitchen with café-style seating, and multiple conference rooms. The bank’s grand entrance balances security and comfort.

This interior-build out also includes custom wallpaper branding and high-end light fixtures, acoustic ceiling panels, and sound baffles. Two full-sized murals designed and painted by Quad City Arts youth participants are located off the second and third-floor elevator lobbies.

Hershey Lofts

The Hershey Lofts building was built in 1908 in Muscatine, Iowa, and was home to Hershey State Bank. In 2018, Bush Development purchased the property and renovated the five-story building into 25 market-rate apartments and commercial/retail space.

Residential amenities include:

  • Full-size fitness center
  • On-floor storage
  • Kitchen with stainless steel appliances
  • In-unit laundry
  • Business lounge

Animal Family Veterinary Care Center

Animal Family Veterinary Care Center’s growth was outpacing the size of their facility. Our design and construction teams helped to find solutions through renovations of two adjacent facilities and a small addition. The team converted their existing, partially vacant “north building” into a state-of-the-art grooming, boarding, and training facility. The goal of all client-facing areas was to be friendly and inviting while all employee-facing areas were to provide facilities that prepare the AFVCC team for the future of veterinary care.

Phase two of the project was to utilize existing ward spaces and convert them into all-new medical and dental treatment spaces. The addition portion of the project was to provide new ward spaces for treated animals. The completion of phase two represented a total transformation of the entire campus, complimented by the already completed play area.

Edward Jones

The client, an Edward Jones financial advisor, was looking not only at having their own office space but also creating spaces to be leased to complementing businesses. Our design and construction teams worked with the client to realize a building that both satisfied their design requirements and fit nicely into the transitional area between commercial and residential spaces. We coordinated work with the client’s private contractor on their tenant fit-out to ensure a successful transition from building shell to tenant space.

Edward Jones

The Captain’s Table

After a structure fire destroyed the Captain’s Table, a longtime Quad-City area restaurant located alongside the bank of the Mississippi River, Bush Construction worked with the owners to rebuild the 6,000 square feet restaurant and 2,000 square feet patio.

The project consisted of:

  • Reworking the sites and stabilizing the soils of the new building’s footprint.
  • Pouring and stripping new concrete parking lots.
  • Installing concrete ramps and pouring stairs that lead into the building.
  • Installing a small deck for the entrance to the kitchen and a riverfront patio/deck for outdoor dining, built using large glulam beams and composite deck boards.

Bush Construction also installed two complex door systems called Win-Dor folding doors. These door systems lead to the large dining patio. On the exterior of the building, we installed fiber cement siding, metal fascia, metal soffit, a flat TPO roof, and a shingled roof. The indoor dining areas consist of LVT floors, painted walls, and painted wood siding and exposed ceilings with painted duct.

The main entry has a storefront vestibule/waiting area with a custom hostess stand. The bar also includes custom waiter stations, bar top, and shelving for behind the bar. To complete the bar area, Bush Construction installed painted wood siding and cedar wood ceilings.

Lastly, the state-of-the-art commercial kitchen includes a keg cooler and a large cooler for food storage with a freezer on the inside as well. The finishes include FRP walls, acoustical ceiling tiles on the ceiling, and Protect All flooring. The kitchen also includes a massive 35-foot vent hood hanging above the cooking area.

Coram Deo Bible Church

Coram Deo Bible Church underwent a significant renovation to create a vibrant, educational, and safe space to support its Children’s Ministry. Bright colors illuminate common areas designed for interacting and playing, and each of the 11 classrooms meets the needs of the children and pre-teens they serve.

Nursery – offers room dedicated to nursing moms that includes a screen with a feed to the Worship Center, a crib room where babies can sleep and a kitchenette complete with a dishwasher and sink.

Preschool – includes a bathroom and a sink, whiteboards, and audio-visual technology to assist little learners.

Upper Elementary – features modular tables and chairs for connecting, moving, and learning.

In addition, the Compass Room (holds up to 150), the Cornerstone Room (holds up to 200), and the Legacy Room (holds up to 260) were created as flexible spaces for children’s ministry programs, gatherings, and events.

The renovation to Coram Deo Bible Church also included the reconfiguration of the entrance, including a dedicated Welcome area, a wide-open corridor to the children’s ministry, and new paint and flooring.

Bettendorf Christian Church

To accommodate a growing congregation, Bettendorf Christian Church underwent a 16,000 SF addition and 10,000 SF renovation project. Their goals were to increase space, improve traffic flow and enhance their children’s and student ministries. The church determined a multi-use worship area that seats up to 850 with a gym layout would offer the greatest flexibility to convert the space for a variety of activities and events.

The Church’s gym/worship area includes a stage, a separate audio-visual area, and a baptistry. The welcoming front entrance provides an open space for members to congregate, the kitchen an opportunity to serve, and the cafe a way to enjoy coffee and conversation before or after services.

Humility of Mary Homes & Services

Humility of Mary Homes and Services operates a day and night shelter for adults who face an urgent housing need. Bush Construction was selected to renovate the building’s entryway. We installed an enclosed front desk area with security windows and separated the donation drop off area from the day room. In addition, we installed new flooring, doors, hardware, casework, and painted the walls.
