This project consisted of the renovation of approximately 5,000 SF of space within the Bettendorf Family Museum to prepare for a complete remodel of the museum exhibit area. It included demolition, the installation of new partitions, slate-textured concrete floors, mechanical, electrical, and plumbing work.
The Davenport Public Library Eastern Avenue Branch project included the construction of a new 25,800 SF LEED-certified public library. The work involved a steel frame on standard concrete footings and foundations, stone and masonry exterior on metal stud back-up, a metal panel on metal stud back-up, aluminum windows, storefront and entry systems, and membrane roof. Building systems included new HVAC, electrical, plumbing, fire protection, and communications. The Mechanical GSHP system was dependent on a vertical geothermal well field located on-site. The Davenport Public Library features a Children’s Garden, reinforced turf area for outdoor events, and landscape features to support the LEED criteria for stormwater management. Building components included administrative support areas, public meeting rooms, a computer area, and a public reading room with Adult, Teen and Children’s collections.
Oak Run Golf Course is a part of the Oak Run (Spoon Lake) lake resort community located in Dahinda, Illinois. This community was originally established in the 1970’s. Bush Construction was honored to replace the original clubhouse with this beautiful, new facility, providing a rustic, yet updated look for the focal point of their golf course.
The Oak Run Golf Course clubhouse has an open lobby featuring polished, stained concrete floors, a vaulted ceiling with exposed faux rafters and ductwork. A double-sided fireplace built from cultured stone collected from the lake area separates the lobby from the sports bar. The bar features a concrete bar top. The clubhouse also houses a pro shop, a full restaurant with formal dining, a waiter’s station and a top-quality commercial kitchen.
Our Savior Lutheran Church project included two building additions totaling 17,358 SF and the renovation of 5,022 SF of existing space. The first building addition connects to the existing Sanctuary. This addition created a larger Narthex, a large classroom with tiered seating, two additional classrooms, a kitchenette, restrooms, and a few other ancillary spaces. The second addition connects to the existing Fellowship Hall and is now utilized for youth education. This addition created seven new classrooms, a youth recreation room, and a few other ancillary spaces. The renovated space created three additional classrooms, two administrative offices, and a conference room.
This project had a few challenging aspects to overcome during construction. Initially, this project came in over-budget by approximately $450,000. Bush worked with the architectural team and subcontractors to reduce the overall project costs, and bring the project back within budget. The second hurdle was that Our Savior Lutheran Church is currently on a septic system. As part of the project, the church is now connected to Davenport city services. The septic system was located beneath one of the new additions. Bush worked extensively with the architectural team and the subcontractors to create a phasing plan to make the new connection to the city without the church losing the use of this utility. Lastly, the soils at the building additions were unsuitable to withstand the loading of the additions, and intermediate foundations were needed to be installed. Bush worked with the earthwork contractor to create a site grading phasing plan to efficiently install the intermediate foundations without interrupting the flow of construction.
