Genesis West | Linear Accelerator

Genesis needed to update their Linear Accelerator (a machine used to help treat cancer using lasers to target specific areas of the body and used together with a CT scan machine.) Genesis purchased a new Linear Accelerator and hired that company to shut down and remove their old one.

Bush Construction’s work included:

  • A full demo of the room including cutting out concrete to replace the Linear Accelerator’s mounting pad.
  • Replace all framing and drywall and finished out the entire space with new paint, flooring, and cabinets.

According to the manufacturer, this process is typically a 3-month duration (most of these Linear Accelerator rooms are all the same throughout the US). Bush Construction, along with all sub-contractors, was able to complete this in 6 weeks. Members of our team were there late into the evening the final day to get the room finished in time for the new machine to be installed.

The schedule was our main concern on this project since it was so fast-paced. With creative scheduling and working very closely together, we achieved a schedule that was less than half the typical duration.

Working in an occupied healthcare facility requires a skilled team, frequent communication, awareness, and flexibility as we coordinated work with the hospital staff. Genesis was still performing procedures in the room next door to us (a different machine but still a cancer treatment center). Noise caused by foot traffic and getting material to the job site was a big issue. We also had to be vigilant in scheduling work in the CT Simulator room. Genesis continued to use that machine while we updated the paint, flooring, and casework.

Midwest Medical Clinic

The Midwest Medical Clinic contains a lavish front office, followed by 10 exam rooms, procedure rooms, labs, and staff support areas. There is an additional 5500 SF of multiple medical office tenant spaces with dedicated entry options.

The Bush design team studied the path a typical patient would take at the facility to arrive at an efficient layout that is also scalable for future needs. Attention to aesthetics and visibility is one of the key drivers making this project a landmark establishment.

Vera French Carol Center

The work on the Vera French Carol Center included the construction of a Workforce Recovery Center addition to add space for:

  • A New “Front Door” & Elevator to make the Carol Center more inviting and accessible
  • Expansion of Supported Employment with additional staff and training space
  • Co-Location of Partners for Workforce Recovery potentially including Iowa Workforce Development, Vocational Rehab, transportation providers, childcare providers, & Veterans Administration.
  • Provision of Retail Space for Businesses to staff persons re-entering the workforce and possibly retail space for startups run by entrepreneurs through the Carol Center Clubhouse.

Eagle View Community Health

Our team at Bush Construction worked with IDEA Architecture and remodeled an old theater into a healthcare facility for Eagle View Community Health. This health clinic is a full-service health center offering medical, dental, behavioral heath, and substance use services. To provide this range of treatments the building includes exam rooms, dental hygiene stations, counsel offices, and includes an in-house medical lab.

Genesis Health Systems | Birth Center

The renovation of Genesis East Health System’s entire fifth floor for their new Birth Center included complete flooring replacement, new millwork, paint and wall coverings in the corridors, public areas, and in 31 patient rooms, as well as, plumbing and electrical upgrades throughout. TV’s were also installed in all patient and waiting rooms. Room renovation included several different room styles. Rooms were completed in multiple phases (two rooms per phase), in order to keep the majority of the rooms in operation during construction. Daily coordination with the owner and nursing staff was required in planning all activities as this was a functioning hospital environment.

Mississippi Valley Surgery Center

The Mississippi Valley Surgery Center and Endoscopy Center are outpatient facilities in Davenport, Iowa. Bush Construction was MVSC’s construction partner for numerous projects over six years.

The project consisted of building modernization both interior and exterior, build-outs to the Ear, Nose and Throat Professional Services, new restrooms and spaces in Iowa Women’s Health and the Plastic Surgery Center and renovation and build-out for Orthopedic Specialists.

The project also included the renovation of the existing space office with a new physician break room and sterile storage room, which required extensive coordination with HVAC tie-ins, for the Vascular Suite. In addition, Bush renovated the Orthopedic Specialists’ office in Clinton, Iowa.

The construction occurred in an active medical office environment, which included daily coordination with medical staff, as well as the building’s owner.
