Projects

North Scott High School

Interior demolition of the 34,000 SF of Administrative Offices and Media Center at the North Scott Community School District began in August 2014. The rebuilding and building addition portion of this project consisted of a renovated entrance, office, and media center spaces. Two clerestory windows in the media center and one clerestory in the main entrance to the building provides natural lighting.

The North Scott Community School District had many improvements they wanted to make to their high school to improve the learning and teaching experience for students and faculty. However, at the top of their list was a large project to create a grand entrance to the high school and basketball arena and improve their media center and administrative areas. In August of 2014, Bush Construction began work on the project. The main challenge of a project like this was high schools do not shut down for construction. We had to maintain a safe learning environment throughout the entire project. This project not only featured two large additions, but also extensive interior renovations as well as clerestory additions to the roof. In the end, a beautiful new media center, administrative area, secure main entrance, staff and faculty offices, additional restrooms, and new concession stand were built. District officials accomplished their goal by defining a project the whole community can be proud of.

Bowe Machine

Bowe Machine is a 58-year-old, family-owned machining and milling business in Bettendorf, Iowa that manufactures industrial shear blades, composting equipment, large metal-shredding blades, and other equipment sold worldwide. They chose Bush Construction to upgrade outdated space into state-of-the-art production bays.

The project included a 32,000 SF pre-engineered metal building addition which now houses four overhead cranes, a large gantry mill, and other milling machines.

The demolition of the old structures began in July 2014, followed by minor excavation. Installation of helical piles was required to help support the building columns.

Bowe Machine remained in production during construction, which took place between (and connecting) their two occupied buildings.

Genesis Health Systems | Birth Center

The renovation of Genesis East Health System’s entire fifth floor for their new Birth Center included complete flooring replacement, new millwork, paint and wall coverings in the corridors, public areas, and in 31 patient rooms, as well as, plumbing and electrical upgrades throughout. TV’s were also installed in all patient and waiting rooms. Room renovation included several different room styles. Rooms were completed in multiple phases (two rooms per phase), in order to keep the majority of the rooms in operation during construction. Daily coordination with the owner and nursing staff was required in planning all activities as this was a functioning hospital environment.

LyondellBasell

This project added 95,000 SF of administrative, laboratory, maintenance and control room space at the LyondellBasell facility in Clinton, Iowa. It also included site utilities, parking lots, landscaping, and demolition of structures.

Bush Construction worked closely with the owner and owner’s representatives and provided a critical path method project schedule defining the design, procurement, and construction of the project and provided a detailed execution plan.

Bettendorf Community School District | Tennis + Pickleball Courts

Bush Construction constructed one of the newest and largest outdoor tennis complexes in the Quad Cities area for the Bettendorf Community School District. The project included replacing eight aging courts with six new, modern tennis courts and adding an additional six courts adjacent to Bettendorf High School, which significantly expanded capacity and improved playability for student-athletes.

The scope also extended to Bettendorf Middle School, where Bush Construction added six new tennis courts and six new pickleball courts, creating versatile recreational and competitive spaces for students and the community. Designed with durability, safety, and long-term use in mind, the upgraded facilities support athletic programming across multiple grade levels and reinforce the district’s investment in high-quality outdoor amenities.

Oak Run Golf Course

Oak Run Golf Course is a part of the Oak Run (Spoon Lake) lake resort community located in Dahinda, Illinois. This community was originally established in the 1970’s. Bush Construction was honored to replace the original clubhouse with this beautiful, new facility, providing a rustic, yet updated look for the focal point of their golf course.

The clubhouse has an open lobby featuring polished, stained concrete floors, a vaulted ceiling with exposed faux rafters and ductwork. A double-sided fireplace built from cultured stone collected from the lake area separates the lobby from the sports bar. The bar features a concrete bar top. The clubhouse also houses a pro shop, a full restaurant with formal dining, a waiter’s station and a top-quality commercial kitchen.

Pershing Lofts

Pershing Hill Lofts is a 62 unit, 100,000 SF project that converted old 6-story Crescent Electric Company and 3-story Sieg Iron Company buildings into trendy loft apartments. The lofts consist of a combination of one-bedroom, one-bath; two-bedroom, one-bath; two-bedroom, two-bath; three-bedroom, two-bath apartments, and studio apartments with one-bath. Four of the lofts meet ADA requirements.

Due to the historic nature of these buildings, strict requirements were set by the State and Federal Government that we were required to adhere to in order for the owners to receive the tax incentives necessary to make this project possible, financially. Many of the original historical features of the building were kept in their original form or restored.

It’s an honor to breathe new life into buildings that have been a part of our community for so many years.

Augustana College | Westerlin Hall

The Augustana College Westerlin Hall is the largest residence hall, housing 455 students in three separate, three-story wings – Jenny Lind, Immanuel, and Westerlin. Bush Construction renovated the entirety of Westerlin Hall in three separate phases over three of Augustana’s summer breaks; completing one wing per summer.

Renovations on the residence hall included window replacement, upgrades to the mechanical and electrical systems, plumbing and restroom upgrades, new interior finishes and flooring, installation of an elevator, roof replacement and masonry restoration.

Pleasant Valley Junior High School

The Pleasant Valley Junior High project consisted of four building additions which included science rooms, additional classroom space featuring high ceiling corridors and clerestory windows, an industrial tech center and extended food prep area. These additions incorporate load-bearing CMU walls with steel joists and decking with EPDM roofing. The existing boiler was also replaced with three high-efficiency boilers, adding an air-cooled water chiller and five new rooftop units.

The school’s media center, guidance offices, orchestra room, kitchen and boy’s locker rooms were also renovated during this project. These renovations took place while school was in session, making coordination with the school district imperative for a successful completion.

Village Cooperative

Village Cooperative of Crow Creek is a 120,000 SF, sixty-one unit senior living facility Bush Construction built for Real Estate Equities. The project consisted of an underground parking garage, constructed of CMU block and hollow-core precast planks. The upper four floors have wood wall framing and wood trusses. The wood walls are ‘panelized,’ which means they are assembled in a factory/warehouse and arrive to the site in 8’ to 12’ sections. Panelizing walls shortens building erection time in the field, reduces the overall construction schedule, and saves money.

The living units are individually purchased and owned by residents, who are near or at retirement age. There are many perks to these facilities, including underground/covered parking, secure facilities, fitness center, elevator accessibility, club/commons area for events, patios/balconies, and maintenance by Real Estate Equities. Living units had several upgrade options to allow flexibility and personalization.

The project also included extensive exterior work, including sodding, irrigation, garden plots, retaining walls, pergola, concrete walks/driveways/parking lot, trees, and plantings.
